Brilliant. Insult and piss off a major market country, in order to appeal to political, not consumer desires in a much smaller market. After this, it would be appropriate if there were more Absolut drinkers in Mexico than in the U.S.
Update: Announcing the cancellation of the ad campaign, after a barrage of reaction, a company spokesperson translated the intent of the ad for us gringos. “In no way was this meant to offend or disparage, nor does it advocate an altering of borders, nor does it lend support to any anti-American sentiment, nor does it reflect immigration issues.”
“Instead, it hearkens to a time which the population of Mexico may feel was more ideal.”
