“Now he wants to glorify and benefit from his crimes.
He should be shunned and ignored by both the media and the public. If we are to live in a remotely just society, a line of decency must be drawn.”

We get caught up with campaigns, calculated positions and spin from all sides. Republicans . . Democrats and pundits analyzing strategeries and counting votes. Who’ll run which worthless committee that shouldn’t exist in the first place.
On this tape from the Hoover Institution, and ironically, public television, Milton Friedman explains that libertarianism is “consistent with the maximum freedom for each individual to follow this own ways , his own values as long as he doesn’t interfere with anybody elses doing the same.”
Friedman, besides being a brilliant economist, was a consistent philosophical champion of freedom. What pro-liberty giants are left to tell us that “The only reason there is any chance of keeping government limited is because government is so inefficient and does so poorly.” Looking around the globe he says, “Where is it least rosy? In those countries where things are run by the government, not in those countries where private enterprises are.”
Whether discussing environmental solutions by “making individuals be responsible for costs they impose on others,” or asking how many lives are lost by new drugs being permitted to market too late, he made it clear that the free market is not just the most moral system, but also the most practical. The market of ideas has lost a giant, but his words will hold value forever.
Michael Smerconish asks a good question with the framing of his platform for Morning Man. The fifteen question survey offers a good sampling of suburban opinions in swing-state Pennsylvania, southern NJ and Delaware. He’s questioning which party best reflects his views.
Think of it this way. Which party has more clearly and less ambiguously articulated these opinions? The Republicans gained a majority twelve years ago by stating specific goals and positions. They lost that majority by doing the opposite. Further, what could have been accomplished in those twelve years? What was accomplished?
Take a look at the survey results. In my opinion, one party presented a consistent view on only a couple positions. Another party less ambiguously articulated 2-3 times that number. The voters were able to tell the difference.
In 1992 Admiral James Stockdale opened his vice-presidential debate asking, “Who am I? Why am I here?” It was kind of bizarre at the moment, but now it’s a crucial question for voters, party leaders and candidates. If the party leaders cannot answer they should step aside. Candidates need to be able to make sense of an issue and take a stand. The voters are always able to take a stand. They just did.
Its been a tough week, but now From the Associated Press Propaganda -
WASHINGTON (AP) — The government believes Fidel Castro’s health is deteriorating and that the Cuban dictator is unlikely to live through 2007.
The second paragraph begins: “That dire view . . ” DIRE VIEW? Screw AP. That news is only dire to people who think the loss of the Berlin wall or fall of the Soviet Union was dire news. This fiend has sentenced generations of Cubans to political and economic slavery. Families risk sharks and drowning rather than continued living under the boot heel of this pig.
Here’s a few comments from young Cubans that must have slipped past AP’s editors in another of their articles:
“I feel blind and manipulated.”
“I want more technology, to be somewhere that feels more advanced.”
“I want to open my mind.”
Fidel can’t turn to dust soon enough. Too bad the exploding cigar idea didn’t work. I hope the Cuban people can find their way to freedom without risking their lives on the ocean. I can’t wait for some great Cuban food, drink, music and non-exploding cigars in a free Havana.
