What kind of sick bastard does it take to satirize this weeks tragedies striking the Boy Scouts? Now, I realize that in a time when even Howard Stern is sort of passé, that pretty much anything goes. But what you write and say serves to define you and your cause. I’ve never read, heard, or even heard of, this talk host before this sick column, but I am now less inclined to ever do so. And I think I will give Scouting a prominent spot on the causes page.
Dear Senator Durbin,
The temperature in my living room has now reached 90°. I beseech you to intercede in this unholy torture by the Bush administration. I have done nothing to deserve such treatment. I have also been informed that I will very shortly be propelled at tortuous speed across the bay on a jet propelled device with salt water tortuously slapping me in the face. I risk being thrown off this device at great speed and tortuously forced underwater, which can cause you to fear for drowning. Afterwards, I am forced to clean this device out in the blazing sun. I fear I have no hope of ever ending this tortuous ordeal. You are my only . . oh, wait a minute, lunch is here. Talk to ya later.
Sincerely, TalkJunkie

“A building has integrity, just like a man; and just as seldom.” [Howard Roark] However. Though much of the recent publicity about the movie Wedding Crashers concerns John McCain’s cameo in a raunchy flick, unlike McCain, it’s also promoted as “very politically incorrect”. I like politically incorrect. I can go years between movies, but maybe I’ll waste a few dollars on this one. Ahh, probably not. Well maybe I will. Afterall, what, yes what, could be even more more politically incorrect than a conservative in Hollywood?????
Just read it. Posted by Smash on the day of the vote on San Diego’s needlessly controversial Mt. Soledad Cross.
Update – Residents seeking to preserve the veterans monument, despite the horror of it featuring, gasp, a cross, had to settle for only 75 percent of the vote. Just guessing, but I would think that ten percent might have voted against it just because they don’t want the land donated to the federal government. If so, that would still leave an amazing 15% of voters supporting a position of intolerance and hate. Unfortunately this 15 year-old issue still has a long way to go in the courts.
Okay, it wasn’t the real Janis Joplin of course. But LeAnn Rimes can pull off a damn good Joplin set, without the grittiness and drugs, although a little grittiness would be good – the drugs – well, we’ll leave it at that. Kind of ironic ending the freedom concert with music that might easily be associated with the 60’s anti-war left. Grace Slick and Janis Joplin – great music – I guess I’m a Joplin conservative. “Freedom’s just another word for nothing left to lose” and “When the truth is found to be lies and all the joy within you dies” Geez, what would the Move-On Loonies and conspiracy theorists think? That would have been a good leading question for Coulter who unfortunately wasn’t heard from enough during the day.
When you have a panel assembled of Ann Coulter, Mark Levin and David Limbaugh, it’s a shame for them to have only a few moments to quip about the Rehnquist resignation rumors and the all-out-war to ensue. But this was a day both for fun, and for grateful recognition of the men and women in uniform. And no one does that better than Ollie. Colonel North introduced to the crowd, both at the afternoon broadcast and the evening concert, a number of soldiers who were lucky to survive their battlefield wounds. They will battle those wounds for the rest of their lives. We owe them a lot.
Children of soldiers who have given more than anyone could ever repay are the reason for the benefit. Millions have now been raised for the scholarship fund for the children of those permanently disabled, MIA and those who cannot take to any earthly stage to tell their story. Its nice to be among a crowd who so obviously appreciates this and honors their legacy. Its the least we can do. Thank you Ollie. Thank you Sean. For giving us a way to thank them.
